About us
The “Sogar” tannery was founded by two brothers, Zbigniew Wiśnicki and Witold Wiśnicki, who, based on the knowledge gained during their studies at the Faculty of Tanning at the Lodz University of Technology and experience from working in a state tannery, organized in 1980 a craft workshop that tanned sheepskins and furskins, and then cattle hides for footwear.
In the market conditions of the time (the communist regime), when whole hides remained the privilege of large state tanneries, private craftsmen could only count on cattle heads. Purchasing chemicals or tanning machinery required exorbitant effort, and the existing allocations and limits effectively prevented the company from expanding on a large scale. Despite this, this did not satisfy the aspirations of the owners, who, counting on a change in the economic situation, were already developing a vision for the company’s long-term development. The company’s investments were always a step ahead, tailored not only to current needs but also to those yet to come.
In the 1990s, when the free‑market economy emerged, the Sogar tannery expanded its production to an industrial scale. Within a relatively short period, it made an enormous organizational and technological effort. The owners’ exceptional diligence and meticulousness in searching for the best machines, equipment, and available techniques allowed the company to avoid misguided investments.
For many years, the technical and technological level of the plant has placed the company among the leading tanneries in Poland, while also matching the standards of most foreign tanneries. We continuously enhance our machinery with the latest, innovative technological solutions, raise production standards, and expand the company. In 2015, we built a new hall with an area of approximately 1,800 m². We also operate a chemical wastewater treatment facility, constructed using modern Italian technology, and we manage all waste in full compliance with regulations.
We specialize in the production of cowhides and split leathers for men’s, women’s, and children’s footwear. However, our leather is also popular with leather goods manufacturers. We have also produced waterproof leather for the military, obtaining a certificate of conformity issued by the Military Research and Implementation Center for Uniformed Services. We have full machine and technological capabilities for the production of automotive leather, both wet-blue and wet-white.
